Happy Birthday Mom!

Dec. 27th, 2010

My mom's birthday is the day after Christmas. My grandma told me that she really wanted her daughter born on Christmas Day so she took Castor Oil to "jump start" the labor. It backfired and my mom was born in the wee hours of the day after Christmas. My grandma said to never ever take Castor oil as a way of trying to get the baby here early. All she would say is that it was awful... Anyways. My mom turned 51 years old 20 years old (plus 31 years experience) today. :-) My dad asked me to make her a special cake. I had a good time shopping with my dad for supplies and then making & decorating the cake. It turned out pretty fun looking! :-) Happy Birthday Mom!

I wanted each layer to be different with a whimsical top...

My mom will always be young to me!

Top view... I added fondant dots all over the cake board. I've found that lots of professional decorators will actually fondant the entire cake board on the bottom for a more finished look. Not me. Tin foil all the way! haha...

Finally, my favorite birthday pictures...

My cousin Colton took some of the extra fondant for the cake and made a fondant-man, wrote this message on a paper towel and stuck it in the fridge for my mom to find! Hilarious! Love you Colton!!!

Here is the fondant-man in his new home! haha...
